Next was our first good wildebeest siting. These are popular lion food ( though lions are opportunists. They will kill what’s easy, or better yet steal from the leopards which is even easier).
We found more zebra as well. A “dazzle” of zebra, which also included a baby zebra.
It was hard to get a photo because Mom was very protective.
We haven’t shared many photos of what we see the most, which is plentiful quantities of impala. Today we found some sparring, though, which was interesting to watch.
After the formal game drive, we took a bush walk with our guide and crew. We learned a lot about treees - like for instance how this tree variety can filter out all the soil impurities it ingests, and push them out into just one unhealthy branch, leaving he rest of the tree safe. And we learned about a tree whose leaves have a deadly toxin - just 6 drops of its sap can kill a human. Best treat us right, friend and family - that tree is right behind our room!
We also climbed a tree and an enormous abandoned termite mound, and played a game to see who could spit a piece of pebble sized impala poop the furthest. Rich chose to abstain from that game, and sadly Kat’s impala poop spitting skills will not be appearing on her resume.
We were protected on our walk by a loaded rifle that Dylan carried Gun safetys are not used. Here is a bullet which thankfully went unused.
We also had a brush with celebrity - and were able to meet Tristan, sho is the current Sabi Sands Safari Live presenter. He was very nice, and it was great to be able to tell him how much we’ve enjoyed our at home safari experiences prior to our trip. Here’s a link to the show page. Safari Live
